What an AI Pre-Grade is, and what it is not

GrailPilot reads your photos and estimates how a card would come back. It is a reading of pictures, not a grade from PSA, BGS or CGC. It exists to help you decide which cards are worth the postage and the fee.

Light and a steady hand change the answer, so GrailPilot says when a photo is not good enough to read from.

Before you start

Do I need to install anything?
No. The camera and the scan run in your browser, on your phone or your laptop.
Does it work through a sleeve or a toploader?
Yes. Plastic reflects, so GrailPilot warns you about glare and tells you how to hold the card. A slab has its own scan mode.
What happens to my photo?
It is used to identify the card. Your photos are only used to improve our models if you switch that on yourself in your privacy settings, and it is off by default.
Is the Pre-Grade an official grade?
No. It is an estimate from your photos. Only PSA, BGS or CGC can give a real grade.
Where does the market value come from?
From PriceCharting, which tracks completed sales of the same card in the same condition. You see one indicative market price, refreshed daily, with the source named next to it.
Can I carry on in the mobile apps later?
Yes. It is one account, so the collection you start today is the one that opens in the apps.
Is my collection private?
Yes, private by default. It becomes visible to somebody else only when you turn on a share link yourself.
